Social Software powered by Instant Communities

Good news everyone.

Last night we released the latest version of the sixgroups technology and platform. We call this „the stable release“, you might think this is sarcastic because of minor and major hick-ups that we will experience during the next days but in the long run sixgroups will be far more robust and faster. 🙂

Some new features:

We removed the chat length limitation of 140 characters. If you are syncing your shouts with twitter, no problem. It will automatically cut off your shout and post a link to the shout.

Feel free now to post messages on user walls in external livecommunities. (Yes, you could not do so in earlier versions 😉

We added an Ad space to the Livecommunity as unobtrusive as possible (hey, we have to make money somehow).
In this regard we only show ads to users that are not logged in- so if you are logged in you won’t see ads at all (nice, eh?).

Get a Livecommunity for your Website now. It’s easy, fun, and free: http://sixgroups.com

All the best from the 6g Headquarter

Your 6g team.

New office

Seems that we have forgotten to tell you that we have moved to a new office 😉 . It is an extraordinary place in Hamburg Hoheluft: on the top of an overground bunker – with a 360° view. We really love it, just have a look:

Meeting with Stowe Boyd – creating ideas

Today we had an amazing meeting with Stowe Boyd in Berlin. Dominik, CEO of Plista, was so kindly to let us one of the rooms at the office of 5mm in Mitte. Thanks for the invitation to this very start up-ish place!
We took the opportunity to meet Stowe in the run-up to Web 2.0 Expo Berlin – supported by sixgroups.com Livecommunity – where he will give a speech on „Better Media Plumbing for the Social Web“.

The meeting’s objective was to discuss our strategy. Stowe’s excellent knowledge about trends and rules in the web world allowed us to ask critical questions to ourselves regarding the product as well as to work out some new ideas. To summarize the meeting in a nutshell: it was very inspiring and fruitful – and Stowe is just a great guy, believe me!

sixgroups.com @ VielMehr 2008

As mentioned sixgroups.com is sponsor of „VielMehr – Interdisziplinäre Fachtagungen“ where one of the key topics is usability. Yesterday was the second day of the conference and we have met many interesting people who gave valuable feedback (some of them through the eyes of usability experts – thanks for the free analyses 😉 ). So we always kept open a browser tab with our bugtracking tool.

We won’t be attending the last two days; there is too much work left for the next release. Of course, we are available via the VielMehr Livestream. Use the following hashtags to send messages into the Livestream via Twitter: #vielmehr08, #vielmehr2008, #vm08. Sixgroups.com’s Twitter hashtag is #sixgroups. You miss us more? Give us a call +49 40 69 65 93 51 6 🙂

10.000 members on sixgroups.com

I don’t quote myself very often but in this case I just like the news so much:

10.000 members

This morning we passed the 10.000 members mark on sixgroups.com! We are aiming on the next thousands with accelerating pace. Keep an eye on us, we will have some news soon.

Stowe Boyd joins six groups advisory team

We are very happy to announce that one of the most profiled web personalities, Stowe Boyd, joins the advisory team of the INSTANT Communities GmbH, the company behind sixgroups.com.

stoweboydThis exemplifies our approach to an international strategy in which we align six groups not only for the German and European market but for the international web crowd. Stowe will take an important role in our future business development strategy and will be the driving force for penetrating the market for conferences with our Livecommunity.

We first met in Hamburg on the next08 conference where we presented the Livecommunity to the public. On the same day Stowe started his first community and immediately pictured the various opportunities for conferences. What we did not know back in May was, that Stowe had put some work into a prototype back channel system for conferences named „FrontChannel“.

About Stowe Boyd

Stowe Boyd is probably best known for his countless appearances and inspiring talks on conferences all over the world. Apart from this he also publishes insightful articles in his blog /message – have a look. Add it to your RSS readers. It’s definetely worth a read!

About six groups

six groups has been offering community solutions for the rest of us since October 2007. Today six groups provides the Livecommunity, a community application for websites.

It shows the visitors community of a website and enables communication and social networking features among them. Apart from standard community features, like friend request or personal messages, the Livecommunity includes a revolutionary communication tool – the Livestream. The Livestream aggregates all activities in real time: spontaneous conversations and discussions as well as topic-related content from web 2.0 services such as Twitter, YouTube, or Flickr.
