Thank you for the ride

Today is my last day at sixgroups. I am leaving the company as CEO but will remain as shareholder and partner for sparring ideas and strategies.
We have made amazing progress during the last two years but for me the time has come to move on.

The last year has been thrilling – starting with the development of the Livecommunity (the first integrated community solution for every website) and the launch of the Livecommunity on the next08 in May (thanks Martin). Furthermore we won O’reillys WebExpo New York and Berlin as customer for our conference solution (thanks Stowe, Janetti and Brady).

The biggest thank you goes out to Andy, Jan, Helge and Johannes for pushing sixgroups that far and for keep on doing it further from today together with Philipp. Because sixgroups is changing again (as we did two times in the last two years) sixgroups will rock again with the new business to business focus.

I’d like to thank also our dear business angels and our Co-Founders: Thomas and Tom.

I am going to work now as a freelance consultant specialised on social media and gambling. If you want to contact me use twitter or email, drop me a line at XING or just say hello to me at the re:publica. at the infect09

infect09Philipp will present our new social media solution for businesses at the infect09 tomorrow today! The two day conference is about to happen in Düsseldorf and will attract a fine audience of marketing professionals. The conference topic is viral marketing.

Web 2.0 Expo Europe started. Join the conversation.

The Web 2.0 Expo Europe started today. You can follow the event by watching their Backchannel, which aggregates all the messages from Twitter, pictures from Flickr and blogposts. It is great to see how much feedback is genereted through these channels. Take a look by clicking in the top bar at this blog. You can also get part of the conversation by integrating the  Livecommunity on your website. It is really easy.

The Livecommunity for the Web 2.0 Expo shows everyone who is currently online on the Web 2.0 Expo sites and its partnersites (e.g. on your website). You can chat with other visitors and discover resources which are related to this cool event. Imagine the visitors of your website can talk to people on or – its possible with the Livecommunity.

The Livestream is the backchannel for the Web 2.0 Expo Berlin. It includes

  • Chat-messages and discussions
  • Community-activity
  • Photos, videos, blogposts, RSS, Tweets

How will your content appear in the Livestream?

  • Post image or video URLs directly into your message and the corresponding media will be embedded in your post.
  • Tag your content on Flickr, YouTube, etc. with the tags of this community: w2eb, web2expo europe, web2expo
  • Use web2expo, #w2e, w2eb, web2expoeu, web2expoeu08 in your Tweets and they will appear in the Livestream as well.

Your benefits of becoming a partnersite in the Web 2.0 Expo Berlin Community:

  • Get traffic from the Web 2.0 Expo Community
  • Get a link back to your site from every activity that happens on your website
  • Show your visitors what is going on at the Web 2.0 Expo

Copy this code just before the closing </body> tag at the end of your website code.

<script type=”text/javascript” src=””></script>
<div id=”sgBarContainer”><span style=”font: 9px Arial, sans-serif; color: #ccc; “>Livecommunity powered by <a style=”font: 9px Arial, sans-serif; color: #ccc; ” href=”” title=”eigene Community erstellen”></a></span>
<script type=”text/javascript”>if(sg){sg.addWidget({type: “sgBar”, vposition: “fixed”});}</script>

Your Livecommunity will be integrated immediately into your website but will need approval from the administrator of the community. This may take some minutes.

Livecommunity update

We released a really big update of the Livecommunity early this morning:

Usability enhancements

Starting with the toolbar we reduced the number of items and links significantly. We eliminated the search form, login/register and lots of other things and added a big „open“ link:

We applied the same principle to the first overview page of the Livecommunity:

– separation between main content area and sidebar

– reduced functional links, i.e. filters are hidden

– added a breadcrump navigation

– Livecommunity opens now in full browser height allowing more entries to be displayed

The new toolbar is available and you have to update your embed-code to a new version. You can do this manually by changing this line:

<script type="text/javascript" src=""></script>

<script type="text/javascript" src=""></script>

or go to the community your choice and get the new code from the partnersites overview.

You can now embed presentations from slideshare within the Livestream. Just post the URL in the shoutform and the presentation will be part of your community:

We also made a lot of changes in the background. These should lead to a more stable and faster version.

Tell us how you like the new Livecommunity.

six groups Livestream saved two dog’s lives

We are very happy that our technology has real impact on peoples lives. In this case the Livestream of the „Zuckerhunde“-Community was helpful twice to dog owners who’s dogs are diabetic.

Birte Oldenburg, the founder of the community, explaines in an article on (in German) why it is so useful that every visitor of her website has direct access to the chat in the Livecommunity. This enables the visitors to see who is online and gives the possibility to communicate instantly with each other.

And in the case of the two dogs this was the right advice to the right time.
