Web 2.0 Expo Europe started. Join the conversation.

The Web 2.0 Expo Europe started today. You can follow the event by watching their Backchannel, which aggregates all the messages from Twitter, pictures from Flickr and blogposts. It is great to see how much feedback is genereted through these channels. Take a look by clicking in the top bar at this blog. You can also get part of the conversation by integrating the  Livecommunity on your website. It is really easy.

Why?

The sixgroups.com Livecommunity for the Web 2.0 Expo shows everyone who is currently online on the Web 2.0 Expo sites and its partnersites (e.g. on your website). You can chat with other visitors and discover resources which are related to this cool event. Imagine the visitors of your website can talk to people on http://blog.web2expo.com or http://webexberlin2008.crowdvine.com – its possible with the Livecommunity.

The Livestream is the backchannel for the Web 2.0 Expo Berlin. It includes

  • Chat-messages and discussions
  • Community-activity
  • Photos, videos, blogposts, RSS, Tweets

How will your content appear in the Livestream?

  • Post image or video URLs directly into your message and the corresponding media will be embedded in your post.
  • Tag your content on Flickr, YouTube, etc. with the tags of this community: w2eb, web2expo europe, web2expo
  • Use web2expo, #w2e, w2eb, web2expoeu, web2expoeu08 in your Tweets and they will appear in the Livestream as well.

Your benefits of becoming a partnersite in the Web 2.0 Expo Berlin Community:

  • Get traffic from the Web 2.0 Expo Community
  • Get a link back to your site from every activity that happens on your website
  • Show your visitors what is going on at the Web 2.0 Expo

How?

Copy this code just before the closing </body> tag at the end of your website code.

<script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://webexberlin2008.sixgroups.com/widgets/api/json/v/03/”></script>
<div id=”sgBarContainer”><span style=”font: 9px Arial, sans-serif; color: #ccc; “>Livecommunity powered by <a style=”font: 9px Arial, sans-serif; color: #ccc; ” href=”http://sixgroups.com” title=”eigene Community erstellen”>sixgroups.com</a></span>
<script type=”text/javascript”>if(sg){sg.addWidget({type: “sgBar”, vposition: “fixed”});}</script>
</div>

Your Livecommunity will be integrated immediately into your website but will need approval from the administrator of the community. This may take some minutes.

Meeting with Stowe Boyd – creating ideas

Today we had an amazing meeting with Stowe Boyd in Berlin. Dominik, CEO of Plista, was so kindly to let us one of the rooms at the office of 5mm in Mitte. Thanks for the invitation to this very start up-ish place!
We took the opportunity to meet Stowe in the run-up to Web 2.0 Expo Berlin – supported by sixgroups.com Livecommunity – where he will give a speech on “Better Media Plumbing for the Social Web”.

The meeting’s objective was to discuss our strategy. Stowe’s excellent knowledge about trends and rules in the web world allowed us to ask critical questions to ourselves regarding the product as well as to work out some new ideas. To summarize the meeting in a nutshell: it was very inspiring and fruitful – and Stowe is just a great guy, believe me!

Livecommunity update

We released a really big update of the Livecommunity early this morning:

Usability enhancements

Starting with the toolbar we reduced the number of items and links significantly. We eliminated the search form, login/register and lots of other things and added a big “open” link:

toolbar

We applied the same principle to the first overview page of the Livecommunity:

- separation between main content area and sidebar

- reduced functional links, i.e. filters are hidden

- added a breadcrump navigation

- Livecommunity opens now in full browser height allowing more entries to be displayed

The new toolbar is available and you have to update your embed-code to a new version. You can do this manually by changing this line:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://communityname.sixgroups.com/widgets/api/json/?v=0.2"></script>

to

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://communityname.sixgroups.com/widgets/api/json/v/03/"></script>

or go to the community your choice and get the new code from the partnersites overview.

Slideshare

You can now embed presentations from slideshare within the Livestream. Just post the URL in the shoutform and the presentation will be part of your community:

slideshare

We also made a lot of changes in the background. These should lead to a more stable and faster version.

Tell us how you like the new Livecommunity.

CommunitySummit in Hamburg

CommunitySummit took place in Hamburg this week. The two day conference featured all questions about community management, community building and controlling. 80 experts from various community related media and consulting companies as well as from start-ups discussed and met in a pleasant setting. The event is hosted by KongressMedia.
We had the possibility to present our concept to the experts panel. Here is our 3 minute presentation:
